JetBlue Baggage Policy

JetBlue baggage policy allows 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item for all fares except Basic Blue fare. The airline charges a fee for the checked baggage for Blue, Blue Plus, and Blue Extra fares. Besides, the airline offers a generous baggage allowance for active US military personnel.

Below is the overview of all guidelines, and allowances as to what you can carry with the airlines, and much more.

JetBlue carry on baggage allowance

Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and Mint fares include one free carry-on baggage with the ticket cost. It also includes one personal item such as a small backpack, laptop bag, purse, or approved pet carrier as per JetBlue pet policy.

JetBlue carry on size

Jetblue allows 22in x 14in x 9in (55.88cm x 35.56 cm x 22.86cm) sized baggage as carry-on. This includes wheels and handles.

Basic Blue fare does not include carry-on baggage. It includes only 1 personal item of specified JetBlue carry on size that must fit under the seat or overhead bin.

Please Note: Any carry-on bag that exceeds the dimension must be considered as checked baggage.

Exception

As per JetBlue Airlines baggage policy, the following passengers if traveling with Basic Blue fares are exempted from the current hand luggage restriction. Their ticket price covers 1 carry-on baggage and 1 personal item for free. These passengers include –

• Mosaic members
• JetBlue unaccompanied minors
• Passengers flying on JetBlue’s transatlantic routes.
• Passengers who purchase Even More Space with Basic Blue fare.
• Active US military.

Other carry-on regulations

In addition to 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item, the following items are not counted towards excess baggage and can be carried for free –

• Assistive devices
• Duty-free items
• One diaper bag
• Infant car seat

JetBlue personal item allowance

JetBlue allows you to carry one personal item such as a laptop bag, handbag, umbrella, etc. Passengers must adhere to rules and regulations for carrying personal on a JetBlue flight. The personal item is included with all fare types provided –

JetBlue baggage policy for Basic Blue Passengers

Basic Blue fare allows 1 personal item. Any carry-on bags bought at the gate would be checked for the following JetBlue baggage fee – 

• 65 USD for 1st and 2nd baggage
• 180 USD for the 3rd baggage

Please Note: These carry-on bags would go into the baggage hold and can be collected at the baggage carousel area at your destination.

JetBlue checked bag

JetBlue Airways checked baggage allowance includes that the dimensions (including handles and wheels) must not exceed 62 linear inches or 157.48 cm.

Bags that don’t meet the aforementioned criteria would be considered as oversized or overweight baggage and are subject to JetBlue excess baggage fee.

Boxes and Plastic bins – Boxes and Plastic bins are accepted as checked baggage for travelling within the US. They are not accepted for flights outside the US.

All other considerations – Passengers are allowed to carry 2 checked bags anytime – 

• Additional bags may incur a fee, and can be added at the airport or 24 hours before departure.
• Basic Blue fare does not include a check. You can save money by paying for fees on the JetBlue Airline’s website or the JetBlue app.

JetBlue Airways checked baggage policy for international destinations

JetBlue baggage policy affects the following international destinations – 

For flights to/from Ecuador

• No more than 2 checked baggage is allowed.
• The dimensions must be within 62 inches (157.48 cm).
• JetBlue overweight baggage fees apply for luggage over 50 pounds.
• Bags that exceed 70 lbs are not accepted. 

For flights to/from The Dominican Republic and Peru

• 3rd baggage can be added only at the airport.
• Standard JetBlue baggage size allowed (62 inches or 157.48 cm).
• JetBlue overweight baggage fees apply for the luggage over 50 pounds.
• Bags that exceed 70 pounds are not accepted. 

Flights to/from Guyana, Haiti, and Trinidad & Tobago

• Between Nov 16 – Jan 15 every year, the airline only accepts 2 checked bags
• 3rd bag is subject to a fee, and cannot be added online.
• The dimensions of the bag must be within 62 inches or 157.48 cm.
• Bags that exceed 70 pounds are not accepted.

For flights to/from the U.K./Europe

• The JetBlue baggage check-in fee for the 3rd bag is 200 USD.
• A 3rd checked bag can be added at the airport or during check-in.
• Bags that exceed 70 pounds are not accepted.

JetBlue baggage check in time

Passengers traveling with checked baggage on JetBlue flights make sure that they are there with the bags at the JetBlue check-in counter no later than –

• For domestic flights – 40 minutes before departure
• For international flights – 60 minutes before departure

JetBlue baggage policy for passengers traveling in groups

Passengers traveling in groups of 9 or more get 1 personal item free. The Jetblue baggage policy for group passengers varies with the following routes –

• 1 carry-on item is free of charge and the size must be within 22in x 14in x 9in.
• 1 checked bag is allowed for free. The size must be within 60 inches or 157.48 cm. The JetBlue baggage weight must not exceed 50 pounds.
• Fee for the 2nd bag is 45 USD. The fee for the 3rd bag is 125 USD. The fee for 4th and subsequent bags is 150 USD.

US Domestic and International (not transatlantic routes) – 

• Carry-on bags are not permitted. If carrying one, it would be considered as checked luggage.
• 2 checked bags are permitted for free. 
•  The checked baggage size must be within 60 inches or 157.48 cm. 
• The JetBlue baggage weight must not exceed 50 pounds.
• Fee for the 3rd bag and other subsequent bags is 150 USD.
