Volaris Baggage Policy for Infants

As per Volaris baggage policy, car seats are mandatory for both domestic and international route passengers traveling with infants.

• Infants traveling on lap are not entitled for additional baggage allowance.
• Passengers who purchased a car seat would be offered priority boarding. 

Carry-on Baggage Allowance with Volaris Airlines

For domestic travel, the airline allows 1 carry-on baggage and 1 personal item. The size of the carry-on baggage must be within 22 x 16 x 10 in (length x width x height).  Below is the detailed information about the Volaris carry on baggage allowance for the following fares – 

Domestic travel – Vuela Basic, Volaris Classic and Volaris Plus fare

• One personal item and carry-on baggage is included in the fare. 
• The weight of the carry-on baggage must not exceed 22 pounds.
• The size of the baggage must not exceed 22 x 16 x 10 inches (55.9 x 40.6 x 25.4 cm).

International travel – Volaris Basic, Volaris Classic, and Volaris Plus

• 1 personal item is permitted, and the dimension of the checked baggage must be within 14 x 18 x 8 inches (35.5 x 45.7 x 20.3 cm).
• According to Volaris Airlines Baggage Policy 1 carry-on baggage is permitted. The size of the carry-on baggage must be within 22 x 16 x 10 inches (55.9 x 40.6 x 25.4 cm). It must weigh no more than 22 pounds.

Checked baggage allowance varies with the domestic and international travel – 

Domestic travel

As per Volaris airlines baggage policy, Vuela Basic, Vuela Classic, and Vuela Plus fares do not include checked baggage for flights within Mexico. 

The weight of each checked bag must be within 55 pounds (25 kg), and the maximum linear dimension must not exceed  62 inches (158 cm). 

International travel

Vuela Basic and Vuela Classic fares do not include checked baggage for international flights. Passengers traveling with Vuela Plus fare are entitled to check one bag for free on international routes.

Excess Baggage Guidelines With Volaris Airlines

As per Volris excess baggage policy, any carry-on baggage that exceeds the size and the weight should go as a checked bag. If the checked baggage limit exceeds, you will be charged excess baggage fees. 

Checked Baggage – Passengers can check up to 5 bags in total after the limit of the excess baggage surpasses.

Volaris Airlines Sports Equipment Policy

Passengers can add the sports equipment and accessories to their travel, through Volaris Manage Booking app. Passengers can also add the sports item at the airport or through Volaris Call Centre.

Weight and size allowance

Your sports equipment must be within 55 lb and the size should not exceed 98 inches.

Exceeding allowance

The airline does not accept sports items that exceed more than 110 inches and weigh beyond 99 lb

Volaris Airlines Volaris Instrument Policy

As per Volaris Airlines baggage policy, if your musical instrument measures a maximum of 22 x 16 x 10 inches, it is permitted. However, if your instrument exceeds these dimensions, it will go as checked baggage. In addition – 

• Volaris excess baggage fees would be applicable.
• Excess baggage fees also apply for oversized baggage if the instrument exceeds 62 inches (width + length + height).
• Maximum permitted size for a checked instrument is 78.7 inches (width + length + height).

Prohibited and Restricted Items by Volaris Airlines

Following items are not permitted as carry-on baggage, however they are permitted in the baggage hold –

• Aerosol sprays – Up to 16.9 fl oz and 1.1 pounds in weight is allowed.
• Alcoholic beverages – A maximum of 5 liters of alcoholic beverages allowed per passenger. The volume of the alcoholic beverages must not exceed 70% by volume.
• Barometers and Thermometers
• Power tools are allowed.
• Gas-powered welding and cutting tools are permitted as checked baggage.
• Straighteners, curling irons, bows, bayonets, arrows, and other similar tools should go as checked luggage.
• Lithium Batteries
• Powdered items that are larger than 350 ml / 12 oz should go into checked luggage. Examples of such things include makeup, food, ground coffee, spices, milk powder, chocolate, and diet supplements.

What are guidelines for carrying firearms on domestic flight

 Here are the requirements for carrying firearms on Volaris domestic flights

• Firearms are permitted for domestic travel only.
• They are transported as checked baggage.  The transportation limit is 5 kg (11 lbs) per passenger.
• Only 10 passengers per aircraft are allowed to carry firearms. 
• Passengers must make the request during Volaris online check-in. Request approved on the first-come-first-serve basis.

Delayed, Damaged or Lost Baggage with Volaris Airlines

If your baggage is misplaced, damaged or delayed, you must refer to these guidelines – 

Delayed baggage 

If your checked baggage doesn’t arrive on the baggage carousel, visit the Volaris Lost Baggage counter immediately and file a Baggage Irregularity Report.

The airline will try to deliver the baggage within 24 hours.

Damaged baggage

Report any damage to your baggage as soon as you arrive at your destination and issue a Baggage Irregularity Report. You must escalate at least 24 hours before departure. 

Lost baggage

If the airlines haven’t located your baggage within 72 hours of your arrival, request lost baggage claim form at the airport.

• If your checked baggage doesn’t arrive with you, at your request, the airlines we’ll provide you with 250 MXN per day for up to 72 hours. This is to reimburse for their toiletries and other daily essentials.
• As per Volaris airlines baggage policy, the airline will not offer compensation on the following items – money, jewelry, artifacts, electronic devices, medications, perishable items, liquids and other fragile items.

Volaris Airlines Checked Baggage Guarantee

If, for any reason, your checked baggage does not arrive with you, the airline offers the Checked Baggage Guarantee worth 80 USD. Here how you can request – 

• In the event for delayed baggage, approach the airline’s representative. They will issue a Baggage Irregularity Report.
• The representative will issue you a Proprietary Irregularity Report (PIR) number. This will activate your Volaris Airlines Baggage Guarantee.
• Passengers will receive an email for an electronic voucher within 72 hours of filling the report.  

Note – If you don’t receive the email, call 01 800 122 8000 and provide your reservation code to request the voucher number.

Restrictions – Following conditions may apply while using the voucher – 

• Voucher cannot be transferred to another passenger.
• Valid for 1 month from the date of issuance.
• These vouchers are not permitted for Volaris Flight Change. 
• It cannot be  used for last-minute bookings and Volaris flight upgrade service.
