Condition for Accepting Pets Inside the Cabin

Under the Aeromexico pet in cabin program, the following conditions must be met – 

  • Only cats and dogs are allowed in the cabin.
  • The pet’s total weight, including the weight of the carrier or container, is limited to 9 kg/20 lbs.
  • Pets must be at least 8 weeks old.
  • Only flights with a maximum duration of 6 hours allow passengers to travel with pets in the cabin.
  • Young animals and nursing animals will not be permitted.
  • Pets undergoing medical treatment won’t be allowed.

Restrictions Under In-cabin Travel for Pets

Under the Aeromexico pet policy, certain restrictions must be imposed, and the passengers need to comply the following  –

  • The pet must stay in their carrier or container throughout the flight. An in-cabin sticker is applied at the check-in desk.

  • The passenger will be responsible for any necessary cleaning onboard the aircraft as a result of the pet in the cabin.
  • Pillows and blankets are not available for use for passengers.
  • Oxygen cannot be given to a pet in an emergency.
  • The pet carrier must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger’s seat.
  • A pet cannot travel in the cabin with an unaccompanied minor, as per Aeromexico pet in cabin policy. 
  • Only flights operated by Aeromexico are eligible for the pet service in the cabin.
  • You must adhere to that airline’s pet check-in procedures if you have a connecting flight. 
  • Emotional support animals (ESAs) and service animals are both allowed to travel in the cabin with their owners. But passengers are not permitted to transport both a service animal and an ESA.

To check-in your pet under the checked baggage hold, the following requirements must be met – 

  • The container must have a door, which is made of reinforced metal, thick wire mesh, or another material. The door features a strong lock to prevent accidental opening.
  • They must have adequate ventilation. The vents must be sufficiently small so that your pet cannot damage itself by having their nose, legs, or tail poke out of the container.
  • They must have a leak-proof floor that barricades feces or pee from escaping outside.

Pet Carrier Requirements as Check-in Luggage

  • A base of the container must be composed of absorbent material.

  • It will be necessary to transfer the birds in a cardboard or plastic container that can hold no more than four birds.

  • The animal must fly with its owner on the same trip.
  • Your pet is not permitted to escape its cage for the entire trip or any connections.

  • Consider the weather conditions and/or forecasts near the airports of origin, transit, and destination. The airline will not accept your pet as checked luggage if the temperature is above 30°C and below 7°C.

Restrictions on pets that are not allowed to travel

If you own a brachycephalic dog or cat, they cannot be checked in as luggage because they have difficulty breathing or controlling their body temperature. As per the policy, some pet breeds that are regarded as brachycephalic such as – 

  • Cats – Burmese, Himalayan, Persian, and Exotic Shorthair
  • Dogs – Under the Aeromexico dog policy, the following breeds are not permitted to travel. Emotional Support Animal Policy for Aeromexico

As per the Aeromexico Airlines pet policy, emotional support animals (ESAs) and service animals are both allowed to travel in the cabin with their owners. But passengers are not permitted to transport both a service animal and an ESA.

The Aeromexico airline accepts pets that passengers require for their support. They must be trained for a particular service or to assist a disabled passenger – 

  • Guide or service dogs that support blind passengers.

  • Passengers traveling with service dogs that choose any accessible seat, except the emergency exit.
  • A seat opposite the bulkhead can be reserved for free for passengers traveling with medium or large service animals.
  • Even if the seats are empty, the service animal is never permitted to be seated on the vacated ones.
  • There is no specified weight limit for traveling with a service animal.

Documents Required for Pet Travel

Aeromexico pet travel policy requirements in conjunction with travel documents must be obtained. The documents and requirements remain the same for the pets traveling in cabin, baggage hold or cargo. 

Pet transportation within Mexico – The age of the dog or cat must be at least 8 weeks old in order for them to be allowed on a flight within Mexico under the Aeromexico travel with pets program. You need to need to obtain – 

  • Vaccination record – A vaccine certificate is required that reveals current rabies vaccine with application date, duration of protection, and product details. 
  • 1 original and 1 copy of health declaration and must be valid for 5 days from the issuance. The certificate provided by a veterinarian and printed on letterhead paper with the veterinarian’s professional ID number. The health declaration must also contain the following information – breed, gender, age, and color of the animal. 

Pet transportation outside Mexico – It is imperative that dogs and cats be at least 8 weeks old in order to be allowed on an aircraft departing Mexico. The following documents must be needed for pets to get eligible for travel – 

  • Vaccination record
  • Rabies vaccine certificate
  • The pet must receive the rabies vaccination at least 28 days prior before entering the US.
  • A valid ‘Health Certificate’ issued at least 5 days prior to scheduled departure. 
  • Animal Health Export Certificate

Documents required when pets are entering in the Mexico – Following travel documents are needed when entering with pets into the Mexico

  • Vaccine record
  • Certificate of Good health. It must remain valid for at least 15 days before the scheduled departure.

Traveling with pets to/from the US – The United States for Disease Control and Prevention [USCDC] has temporarily suspended the entry of dogs. 

Pets travel to and from Canada – The presence of a valid rabies vaccination certificate, issued in either English or French by a certified veterinarian. The certificate clearly identifies that the animal is currently rabies-vaccinated. The certificate must list the type of rabies vaccine used, the day it was administered, and the certificate’s validity date.  The vaccine must be deemed effective for one year.
